Ultimate Business Casual Dress Shoe | How To Style Monk Straps

You want to improve your shoe game…

but you’re not the “suit & tie” type.

Maybe, you’re a jeans and sweater guy…

Or a chinos and button down guy…

Maybe you just like wearing everything except suits…unless you have to.

But you’re tired of wearing sneakers & boat shoes every day.

How can you stand out?

What can take your business casual game to the next level?

The monk strap.

This article is going to tell you which color monk straps to buy first and how to style them.

Which Monk Strap Should You Buy First?

The first pair you should buy is some type of brown monks.

Suede or leather and the double or single strap is up to you. I prefer suede double monks but it’s personal preference.

You could get a pair of brown leather single monks and have the same versatility.

Why these?

They will match 99.99% of your business casual wardrobe.

  • Jeans? Yes
  • Navy chinos/trousers? Yes
  • Khaki chinos/trousers? Yes
  • Gray trousers? Yes

I think you get the picture….

What About Secondary Options?

If you only buy one pair of monks, the option mentioned above will be your best bet.

But let’s say you want to have options.

The next one or two pairs you should invest in would simply be different shades and materials of brown.

If your first pair is suede, opt for leather next. If your first pair is a double monk, consider a single.

What About Black Monk Straps?

Black monks are a last resort. The reason I don’t recommend black monks as a primary color is because they tend to be contradictory.

The monk in itself is a casual shoe, and black is a formal color. I think you would be hard-pressed to find numerous occasions and outfits to wear them at. They would be the least versatile in my opinion.

But of course, style rules are meant to be broken.

How To Style Single & Double Monk Straps

This post was brought to you in collaboration with Tasso Elba Shoes. I’ve been wearing Tasso Elba for a couple weeks now and the comfort and quality for the price point they’re at are great.

They are definitely an affordable high-quality dress shoe for any guy looking to improve his business casual style, and I highly recommend you check them out.

The soles are blake stitched, and stand up to the weather great (I walked around on a rainy day in my suede monks and they were awesome).
