About Travis White

Here’s a 30 second summary of my life

Who The Heck Am I? And Why Should You Listen To Me?

My name is Travis.

I try to give style & life advice for men that doesn’t suck.

No, I never went to “fashion” school.

But I did train under Antonio Centeno over at Real Men Real Style for a couple years (I guess that counts as school).

I like to talk about my 3 passions on this site:

  • The Behavioral Psychology of Style & Presentation
  • Social Confidence
  • Personal Growth
  • (And Occasionally Health & Fitness)

And I’m just a regular guy (No different from you in any way).

I’m a student teacher in many ways. I strive for progress and to be better than I was yesterday.

And like Seneca wisely once said:

“Homines, dum docent, discunt’ or: Men learn while they teach.

I figure if I can teach solutions to things I struggle with it will be mutually beneficial because we will both grow together.

I don’t claim to be a know it all, in fact, there’s quite a bit I don’t know and I approach everything with an open mind.

Here’s a quick summary of my life:

  • Had no idea what I wanted to do with my life
  • Followed the system (aka went to college, got a degree that I never use, and got stuck with student loans)
  • Became miserable at a 9-5
  • Lived a year with anxiety
  • Once called 9-1-1 because of a panic attack (the ambulance came too)
  • Gained some weight
  • Dressed like a boy
  • Had no sense of style
  • Got my life together
  • Lost some weight
  • Put on some muscle (Became a certified personal trainer somewhere in this time period)
  • Gained some confidence
  • Told people I wanted to start a business online
  • People thought I was crazy
  • Decided to look for a mentor
  • Begged Antonio Centeno (my current mentor) for a job
  • He graciously said yes (after a rigorous audition period)
  • Quit my safe, secure, 9-5 job
  • People thought I was crazy again…
  • I thought I gained sanity
  • Living life has become exciting again
  • Now I learn something new every day
  • Founded my own “business” (aka this website)
  • I don’t feel like a robot
  • I feel in control of my own destiny

I founded this site for one reason.

Because I want to help men become better versions of themselves, similar to how I do my best to become a better version of myself daily.

That’s pretty much my story in a nutshell. I’m not special in any way, but I do try my best to relate to problems that men face, because chances are I’ve gone through them too.

Enough about you Travis...this is a big site, where should I start?

Good question...I would recommend starting with the Most Popular Articles or the Start Here Page.

Travis, I don’t really care to learn about style, fitness, or personal development. I just want to see outfit ideas. Do you have any of those?

Yes, I do. I have a whole page of outfits that I personally styled on my outfit ideas page.

Travis, how do you make money on this site? Can I trust the content you provide if you have sponsors?

Excellent question. I’m glad you brought this up because It’s definitely something that needs to be addressed. I believe in 100% transparency between content creator and content consumer.

In fact, I made an entire page that explains how Unkept Gentleman makes money & why you can trust the information.

Where are the images from?

  • Some of the images are actually of me wearing outfits
  • Some are photographs taken by me of other people or clothing items
  • Some are found on legal licensing websites
  • Others are designed by freelance designers that I hire

Travis, do you write all of your own articles?

Some I write myself, and some I bring in guest writers or long term contributors.

If they’re a contributor it’s because I feel their writing is strong, and sometimes I like letting other people’s voice shine through this platform...because hey, I don’t know everything.

Here are some current contributors:

Mario Natella - PhD in Aerospace Engineering, son of an Italian tailor
Kalan Laws - Professor at Texas Southern University, menswear blogger at Senor Guapo
