3 Ways To Style a Gingham Blazer | How To Wear One Men’s Jacket For Three Different Occasions

3 Ways To Style One BlazerThis is a common scenario:

A man just beginning to be style conscious buys a new blazer.

He has the clerk who sold it to him put together a style combination so he can wear it with confidence.

Then he (rightly so) wears that exact combination because he already knows it works.

Obviously, he doesn’t want to repeat the same outfit in a given week.

So what happens?

He hangs it back up.

It sits collects dust in the closet for weeks.

Only to come out once people have forgotten about the last time he wore that outfit.

At this point, it can almost feel like a waste of money.

That item becomes the most expensive piece of clothing in your closet because it’s rarely worn.

Great style comes with getting the most mileage out of every piece of clothing you own.

No matter how much you spend, if you are able to wear it over and over with confidence, it’s a solid investment.

This is article is going to cover 3 different ways you can wear one blazer, in the same week, without looking like you’re repeating the outfit.

Where To Start

Before you start buying blazers to wear with every outfit, there is one major characteristic to consider.

Versatility.

The blazer you buy has to be flexible enough in your wardrobe to pair with formal AND casual items.

This can be done in a couple of ways.

  1. Micropatterns
  2. Color

Micropatterns are considered “in the middle” of the formality scale. Thus, you can dress it up and down. The louder the patterns, the more casual the outfit. Solid colors lean towards a more formal outfit.

Additionally, the color has to match a vast majority of your wardrobe. This means everything from slacks to denim to chinos.

Navy, dark gray, and olive are all versatile colors that will most likely match everything currently in your closet.

Style #1: The Playful Semi-Formal

This outfit is for the man who wants to dress up but with a little bit of playfulness.

The mixture of patterns and colors with the spread collar shirt says “I want to dress up, but I don’t want to be a stiff in a suit”

The blue tie is the pop of color that gives the whole neutral outfit some contrast. It’s the noticeable detail that takes the whole look from boring to having some personality.

Style #2: The Conservative Business Casual

This is the everyday conservative style man. Dark wash raw denim, light blue button down, the blazer, and a little handkerchief as detail.

This outfit says, “I like to keep it simple but significant”.  There is nothing extreme about this look, but it gets the job done well.

Style #3: The Rebel in Monochrome

This is the most daring look out of all three. Not only does it break general style rules but it’s also all similar hues of color (except for the shoes).

Anytime monochrome is brought into the mix, it’s going to draw attention. Monochromatic looks can work so long as there are slight contrasts in texture, pattern, or shades of the same color.

This outfit says, “I don’t really care about style rules, I’m going to wear it, and with confidence”. It has a rebellious attitude with a little bit of danger.
